Board of Governors
City of London SchoolJob of the Week
Board of Governors (Co-opted member)
We are delighted to announce the Board is seeking up to two individuals with the right blend of experience to complement those already represented on the Board. We aspire to build a Board that reflects the diversity of the pupil body; applications from candidates of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds would therefore be particularly welcome. Candidates with educational experience, particularly in the areas of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and pastoral care, would also be particularly welcome.
The School is part of the City of London Corporation, and the Board of Governors is a Grand Committee of the Court of Common Council. Membership comprises elected members of the Court, and up to eight external members, appointed to four-year terms. All governors are expected to attend four full meetings of the Board each year; they will also be asked to serve on one of three sub-committees (Academic and Education; Finance and Estates; Governance), each of which meets termly. They may also take particular responsibility for one area of the Board’s oversight work, and this may require occasional visits to the School. Governors are given a full programme of induction and are warmly welcomed to a range of school events.
We would be particularly interested to hear from people with experience or leadership skills in the area of special educational needs (‘SEN’) and pastoral care though this is not a requirement.
We are also seeking to reflect the diversity of our pupil body and therefore applications from candidates from Black or Minority Ethnic backgrounds would be welcomed.
The post of governor is unremunerated.
Further information about the role can be found here. Interested candidates are invited to contact Charles Griffiths, Bursar, for an informal conversation. The closing date for applications is 9 am on Monday 26 April 2021, though the School reserves the right to meet with suitably qualified candidates in advance of that date. Final appointments are expected to be confirmed by the Board of Governors in June 2021.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from the parents of children who currently attend the City of London School.
