Role Summary
- This job is to be a Lay Member of the University Council.
- The University Council helps guide and make important decisions for the university.
- You will help the university plan for the future and keep it running well.
- The role does not pay a salary but reasonable expenses are paid.
Key Tasks
- Attend council meetings and committee meetings about 15 to 20 days a year.
- Help oversee the university’s strategy, money, risks, and rules.
- Be a supportive and honest advisor to the university leaders.
- Promote the university in your community and networks.
Skills And Experience
- Have experience in leadership or working on boards.
- Know about managing money, governance or public services.
- Experience with universities or big organisations going through change is good.
- Be able to think carefully and join in helpful discussions.
- Care about fairness, respect, and openness in education.
Pay And Hours
- This is an unpaid role (unremunerated).
- Reasonable expenses will be paid back.
- You need to give about 15 to 20 days each year.
Location And Workplace
- You will work with the University of Nottingham.
- The university has campuses in the UK, China, and Malaysia.
- Most meetings will be at the university or possibly online.
