We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the North East Wales Industry & Waste Regulation Team, as a Senior Industry and Waste Regulation Officer. This role offers an chance to play a key role in protecting and enhancing the environment as part of Natural Resources Wales.
In this role, you will regulate some of the most complex and high‑risk industrial and waste activities, including large industrial installations, COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) sites, RSR (Radioactive Substances Regulation) facilities, and waste management operations. Your work will directly influence how these sites operate, ensuring they meet environmental standards and continually improve their performance.
You will also respond to environmental incidents and reports, acting safely and efficiently to investigate, assess impacts, and take appropriate follow‑up action.
Using NRW’s Regulatory Principles, you will help drive compliance, apply proportionate enforcement where required, and secure meaningful environmental benefits through your regulatory interventions. Every decision you make will contribute to safeguarding the environment and supporting the communities we serve.
Driving is essential to this role, due to site-based work, visiting and inspecting regulated sites across north and Mid Wales . This can be at short notice and on ad-hoc and unplanned basis. The role also requires the post holder to Respond to incidents and complaints again these are unplanned and short notice and can vary in location and nature therefore you must be able to legally drive in the UK.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. You will be expected to attend face to face meetings, training or to participate in operational matters as and when required.
