Skilled Worker Rule Updates

What the New Immigration Reforms Mean for Inclusive Employers

The UK Government has rolled out sweeping changes to the Skilled Worker visa route. For employers committed to inclusive hiring, especially those looking to diversify their workforce, these updates will have a big impact on recruitment planning.

From 22 July 2025, only graduate-level roles (RQF Level 6 and above) will qualify for Skilled Worker visas. Over 100 job roles, many previously eligible, have now been removed. Salary thresholds have also increased with no transitional period. This makes it even more important to build a strong domestic pipeline of skilled, diverse talent.

Social care visas are now closed to new overseas applicants due to widespread misuse. However, existing visa holders can still switch roles within the UK until 2028.

For employers, this is a clear signal to focus on long-term workforce development. Investing in inclusive recruitment strategies, outreach to underrepresented groups, and upskilling local candidates will be key.

To support understanding, the government is running free online town halls from 8–11 July. These sessions will explain the reforms and their links to wider economic plans like “Get Britain Working.”
