The Welsh Government is looking to appoint a Chief Executive Officer for The Office of Environmental Governance Wales (OEGW), an independent Arm’s Length Body that will play a central role in Wales’ response to the climate and nature emergencies.

Established through the Environment (Principles, Governance and Biodiversity Targets) (Wales) Act 2026, The OEGW will provide independent oversight of environmental law in Wales, ensuring that Welsh Ministers and public bodies are held accountable for meeting their environmental responsibilities.

This is an opportunity to lead a nationally significant organisation from its inception, helping to create a more sustainable, accountable and resilient future for Wales and future generations.

The OEGW will monitor compliance with environmental law, investigate concerns, provide advice and guidance, and support long-term environmental improvement across Wales.

We are seeking an ambitious, collaborative, forward-thinking leader who can combine strategic vision with operational delivery. We welcome individuals who can offer fresh perspectives, strategic thinking and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes with a strong desire to make a positive impact in Wales.

Candidates must demonstrate experience or specialist knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: environmental law and policy, environmental science, or investigatory and enforcement proceedings.

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn awyddus i benodi Prif Swyddog Gweithredol ar gyfer Swyddfa Llywodraethiant Amgylcheddol Cymru (SLlAC), corff hyd braich annibynnol fydd yn chwarae rhan ganolog yn ymateb Cymru i’r argyfyngau hinsawdd a natur.

Wedi’i sefydlu drwy Ddeddf yr Amgylchedd (Egwyddorion, Llywodraethiant a Thargedau Bioamrywiaeth) (Cymru) 2026, bydd SLlAC yn darparu goruchwyliaeth annibynnol o gyfraith amgylcheddol yng Nghymru, gan sicrhau bod Gweinidogion Cymru a chyrff cyhoeddus yn cael eu dwyn i gyfrif am gyflawni eu cyfrifoldebau amgylcheddol.

Mae hwn yn gyfle i arwain sefydliad o bwysigrwydd cenedlaethol o’r cychwyn cyntaf, gan helpu i greu dyfodol mwy cynaliadwy, atebol a gwydn i Gymru ac i genedlaethau’r dyfodol.

Bydd SLlAC yn monitro cydymffurfiaeth â chyfraith amgylcheddol, yn ymchwilio i bryderon, yn darparu cyngor ac arweiniad, ac yn cefnogi gwelliant amgylcheddol hirdymor ledled Cymru.
