The Scottish Government is seeking an outstanding audit professional for the role of Director of Internal Audit and Assurance.

As Director of Internal Audit and Assurance you will have a direct role in relation to the Permanent Secretary as Principal Accountable Officer, as well as the Scottish Government Executive Team in their Accountable Officer (AO) roles and those with AO responsibilities in Government Agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies. The post holder will have direct and visible accountability to the Scottish Government Audit and Risk Committee as well as the Audit Committees of the other bodies as and when required. Liaison with Non-Executive Directors will therefore be an important aspect of this role.

This is a professional audit role and fully qualified membership of a relevant professional institution e.g. Institute of Internal Auditors or CCAB professional accountancy body is required. Your application must also demonstrate recent experience at the level and scale required for this role. You will have senior leadership responsibilities for around 70 staff and a direct running cost budget of approx. £3.4m. The Director leads the Directorate of Internal Audit and Assurance that encompasses Internal Audit, the Digital Assurance Office, Portfolio, Programme and Project Assurance, the Data Protection Officer and the Counter Fraud Service. If you have the leadership ability to shape this key role and increase the profile and impact of Internal Audit and Assurance across Scottish Government and the wider public sector, we very much hope you will apply.

Individuals on any working pattern can apply for any post. We welcome flexible working. If you are interested in applying on a job-share basis, please make clear in your application if you wish to be considered as a pre-existing job-share partnership or if you are interested in moving into a job-share arrangement. We will assess proposed working patterns against the business requirements for the post and discuss all options with candidates.

This is a permanent, pensionable Senior Civil Service Director (SCS2) role located in Edinburgh. As with most areas across the organisation, hybrid working is the current arrangement but some in-office attendance will be required to meet business needs for this role. Relocation expenses may be available.
